Our faculty views social work education as grounded in the profession’s history, purposes, and philosophy and based on a specific body of knowledge, values, and skills. Social work ethics are the cornerstone of our program. We are change-makers and are educating the change-makers of the future.

Bachelor of Social Work Program

The B.S.W. degree program is designed to prepare students for professional roles a wide variety of social service settings. The B.S.W. education emphasizes a generalist perspective. The generalist training prepares students for helping others at the individual, group, family, and societal levels. This gives our graduates the unique skills and qualifications to provide services to diverse client populations in a wide range of settings.

The program is a 54-credit-hour major and includes an amazing experiential learning component, a two-semester internship in which students participate in current social work practice in a social service agency setting.

Master of Social Work Program

The MTSU M.S.W. program givesstudents skills and experiences to enhance human well-being, diversity, and social justice. Students are prepared to be competent leaders in the social work profession. The M.S.W. program trains students as advanced generalists. Our M.S. W. graduates have the knowledge, skills and capabiities to serve in a variety of roles from clinical practice to advocacy and policy-making.

Both the B.S.W. and M.S.W. programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, Board of Accreditation; therefore graduates are eligible for state licensure as social workers. We invite you to learn more about social work and we will be happy to meet with you to answer your questions about this exciting profession.

Amazing group of students in the BSW Data Analysis course taught by Dr. Ariana Postlethwait! The students collaborated with United Way of South Central Tennessee's Launch Point program this semester. Students learned new skills and gained valuable experience with real data supporting a vital program in our community. .
